Burmese soldier commits suicide at Waingmaw military base
A Burmese soldier committed suicide with his weapon on August 10 at Waingmaw Military Base in, Kachin State, according to witnesses.
The suicide took place at the Waingmaw-based Infantry Battalion No. 58, at 3 a.m. local time, local witnesses told the Kachin News Group.

No agreement has been reached yet on a new ceasefire between the military-backed Burmese government and the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO), said a KIO official at the Laiza headquarters.
KIO officials say the two parties have agreed to negotiate a ceasefire bringing permanent peace, however, both sides cannot agree, so far.

Kachins mark Martyr Day with re-commitment to revolutionary goal
Kachin people commemorated Martyr Day early this morning and re-committed to their revolutionary goal.
The Kachin people formed the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) under Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) on February 5, 1961, in Northern Shan State, with the goal of secession from the Union of Burma. However, that goal was changed into self-determination, in 1976.

Students spread anti-government posters in Myitkyina
The anti-government poster with 5 demands which was spread in Kachin capital Myitkyina on August 5.
Kachin Students distributed over 1,600 anti-government posters written by hand on A-4 paper around Myitkyina, the capital of Kachin State, on August 5, according to student sources.
Students wrote slogans on the posters including: “Immediately settle peace, don’t kill innocent civilians, protect civilians, stop terrorizing, and don’t destroy the property of civilians.”
