China tells Kachin refugees "go back to Burma"


Chinese authorities in Yunnan province have indicated they will shutdown 16 temporary camps located inside China along the border with Kachin and Shan states. The camps which are not officially supported by the UN or other major international humanitarian agencies are estimated to house nearly 7,000 people.

KIA weekend road attacks kill three Burmese soldiers north of Myitkyina


Three Burmese soldiers from the Namma-based Light Infantry Battalion No. 386 were killed in two separate attacks by the Kachin resistance over the weekend, eyewitnesses report. The attacks took place in Burma's northern Kachin state, which in recent months has seen some of the worst fighting to affect the country in nearly two decades.

KIA raid kills Burmese Major, 17 others in Mongkoe


An attack by the Kachin Independence Army in Mongkoe in Shan state killed at least 18 Burmese army personnel early Monday morning, eyewitnesses report. The attack which occurred in downtown Mongkoe targeted a compound that is home to the Military Strategic Office (Byu-ha Kone in Burmese) and an adjoining police station.

Five Burmese Army soldiers including a captain were killed following an attack by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) against the Burmese army on a road near the jade mining town of Hpakant in Burma’s northern Kachin State on Friday. Eyewitnesses reported that five soldiers were also injured during the guerrilla strike.
