BORDUMSA SINGPHO MANAU VENUE IN CHANGLANG DISTRICT IN INDIAN NORTHEASTERN ARUNACHAL PRADESH. |
This week in India’s northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh, more than 168 Kachin students from India and Burma are attending the first ever Singpho Youth Conference (Singpho is the local way of saying Jinghpaw).
Conferences organizer Hkachyang Maio told the Kachin News Group that the aim of the event is to “make fellowship between Kachin youth and students from the two neighboring countries and discuss Kachin (Singpho) national affairs”.
The four day conference began December 19 and is being held in the town of Bordumsa. According to organizers about 36 of the attendees are Kachin from Burma who now live in India, while the majority of participants are Indian Kachin from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
The conference was the result of an October joint meeting held in Bordumsa by the Kachin University Students’ Fellowship, the Singpho Development Society (SDS) and the Singpho Youth Organization (SYO), with the SYO taking the lead in doing the organizing.
