UN finally arrives in Mai Ja Yang

MAI JA YANG, Burma — More than 9 months after the Kachin conflict began, a UN team finally arrived Tuesday in Mai Ja Yang, the Kachin Independence Organization's second largest town currently serving as home for about 20,000 people displaced by the ongoing government offensive in Kachin and northern Shan states.

Burmese government continue to arrest IDPs fleeing from conflict areas

A warden from the Jan Mai Kawng Baptist Church camp has been arrested by Myitkyina-based Military Affairs Security Unit who is investigating a bomb attack.

Detained Kachin IDPs forced to pay for their food

A KACHIN IDP IN MYITKYINA WAS ARRESTED BY BURMESE POLICE ON JUNE 17.

Six Kachin villagers who fled from fighting between Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese military were detained by authorities and their relatives forced to pay for their food. One was released but five-people are still being held.

Burmese military close Stilwell Road

YUZANA COMPANY'S CHICKPOINT ON STILWELL ROAD WHICH COLLECTS TAX TROM EVERY VEHICE AND TRAVELLER.

Tensions are building in Kachin State after government troops have blocked Stilwell Rd., also known as Ledo Rd., connecting Myitkyina with Danai, on June 17. The Burmese army blocked travel on the road so they could control the movement of civilians and reinforce their military positions in Hpakant Township.

Police arrest refugees in Mogaung township in Kachin state

KACHIN CIVILIANS FLED FROM THE WAR BETWEEN BURMA GOVERNMENT TROOPS AND KIA TO MYITKYINA, THE CAPITAL OF KACHIN STATE.

Earlier this month police arrested four Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and two local residents at Sarhmaw village in Kachin state's Mogaung Township, apparently under the suspicion they were on their way to a nearby refugee camp.

More Kachin civilians flee to KIO controlled area

Scores of Kachin civilians continue to flee to territory controlled by the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) in order to avoid fighting between government forces and the Kachin resistance, according to Salang kaba Doi Pyi Sa, head of the KIO's relief committee.

Kachin youth mark one year of Conflict with Prayer service

In Myitkyina the Kachin State capital a large prayer service was held to mark the one year anniversary of fighting between the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) and Burma's armed forces on Saturday, June 9.

Burmese troops shell in Hpakant, killing one and injuring six

A JADE WORKER WAS KILLED IN THE IN THE SHILLING OF BURMESE TROOPS INTO SENG TAWNG IN HPAKANT.

Burmese military have been shelling Seng Tawng in Hpakant Township in Kachin State since the end of May, according to locals. Residents reported heavy shelling by Infantry Battalion 16 have killed one civilian and injured 6 others.

Kachin Peace Network held service for the one-year anniversary of Kachin conflict

JUNE 9. RANGOON, KACHIN PEACE NETWORK SERVICE FOR THE ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF KACHIN CONFLICT.

The Kachin Peace Network (KPN) organized a prayer service at Doh Yoe Yar restaurant in Rangoon. During the service salted rice was distributed as a reminder of the thousands of IDPs in Kachin State.

UN aid convoy to deliver food to IDP camps after being blocked by the Burmese govt

THE UN DISTRIBUTED RICE TO SENG MAI PA IDP CAMP IN KIO-CONTROLLED MAI JA YANG IN MARCH.

The United Nations’ aid convoy is finally on its way to deliver much needed food rations to some of the thousands of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in camps in Kachin Independence Army (KIA) controlled territories.  The convoy departed on Monday after the Burmese government blocked food supplies last month, according to local aid groups.

Democratic icon Daw Aung San Suu Kyi visited the Thai Mae La refugee camp on Saturday. It was Suu Kyi’s first trip outside of Burma after spending fifteen of the last twenty-four years under house arrest. She announced her plans to visit Thailand’s largest refugee camp before attending the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Bangkok, last week.

Burma Army orders removal of jade mining equipment from Hpakant area

Last month senior Burma army commanders in Kachin state ordered that all jade mining equipment and machinery used in the Hpakant (also Hpakan) area be shipped back before the end of the month.
