Six Burmese Army soldiers killed on Irrawaddy Bridge

Irrawaddy Bridge which is connecting Myitkyina and Waingmaw.
Six Burmese soldiers on security duty on the Irrawaddy River Bridge connecting Myitkyina-Waingmaw in Kachin State, northern Burma were killed in a land mine explosion on November 15 evening, said locals.

The land mine exploded at a place near the bridge gate on the Waingmaw side and the sound of the explosion could be heard by residents in the two towns, said residents.

A KIA officer on the China-Burma border said the explosion was triggered by the KIA.

This is the first time that government troops have been attacked on the Irrawaddy Bridge known as Balaminhtin.

Fresh government troops have been deployed at the two entrance gates in Waingmaw and Myitkyina, since the renewed war on the KIA by the Burmese Army on June 9, residents added.
