No money available for Kachin language curriculum translation for primary school

KACHIN SCHOOL BOOK FOR GRADE ONE.

Kachin language curriculum instructors are finding it increasingly difficult to translate primary school curriculum from Burmese into Kachin after funding which was promised has not been made available.

Union Education Minister Dr. Mya Aye ordered Kachin instructors to translate the entire language curriculum for primary school starting on June 15.

The minister said funds would be available from the State Education Department but no money has been made available for the translation work as of yet.

Dr. K. Roi Ja, Professor of philosophy, who is translating Kachin language curriculum said they haven’t received any support.

“Dr. Mya Aye was asked to provide financial support for the translation work but he still hasn’t informed the state government. In the meantime we are using our own money,” she said.

 Dr. K. Roi Ja translated three levels (primary, Grade One, Grade Two) of Burmese language curriculum to Kachin language.

They Kachin instuctors estimate it will cost 1.8 million kyats to finish the translation work.

According to Dr. K. Roi Ja, they need 2,000 kyat for petrol and 1,000 kyat to provide enough food for one person each day.

Union Education Minister Dr. Mya Aye has ordered the translated curriculum to be finished within two-months.
