The website of the exiled Burmese news organization, the Kachin News Group, at www.kachinnews.com, stopped functioning Wednesday, September 14th, because of a cyber-attack.
According to KNG server data, the Thailand-based Kachin news outlet was temporarily shut down by the Denial-of-Service (DoS) attack, beginning Tuesday, September 13th.
KNG is the main Kachin media outlet and it has become more popular around the world, providing exclusive news in English, Burmese and Kachin from the civil war in Northern Burma, which started on June 9th between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and Burmese government.
The military proxy government’s Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications Department has completely blocked the KNG site since the Saffron Revolution in 2007.
Similarly, in 2010, the Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attack shut down three exiled Burmese news outlets: The Irrawaddy (www.irrawaddy.org), Mizzima News (www.mizzima.com), and the Democratic Voice of Burma (www.burmese.dvb.no).
